Saitama at MEDICA and COMPAMED 2018
From November 12th to 15th 2018, the city of Dusseldorf welcomes visitors and exhibitors from around the globe for the world’s leading med-tech trade fair MEDICA/COMPAMED 2018. As in the previous years, the Japanese prefecture of Saitama will again take part in 2018 and represent itself with a selection of 15 companies. These Japanese companies are already experienced as several of them participated in last year’s MEDICA/COMPAMED or the MT-Connect trade fair in Nuremberg in 2017 or 2018. Representing these companies, the Saitama City Foundation for Business Creation will serve as a perfect gateway to them. Established for the sake of developing small- and mid-sized businesses and facilitating the technical cooperation among its member companies, the foundation helps partakers to eliminate inefficiencies in their corporate activities supporting their sustainable growth.
Since 2011, the city of Saitama, capital of Saitama prefecture, has been coordinating business matchings and technical exchange between JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and the med-tech cluster “Cluster Medizintechnik” from Bavaria, Germany. A relationship of trust had been grown during the last eight years, and they have achieved frequent exchange activities, such as the cooperation with “Cluster Mechatronik & Automation”, the Nuremberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the “Forum MedTech Pharma e.V.” and the “Bayern Innovativ GmbH”. As a result, information exchange between both sides has increased steadily and today an ever growing number of companies from Saitama are looking for partners in Germany and Europe.
Being a traditional location for manufacturing companies, Saitama developed into a centre of precision engineering. The inventive spirit of a multitude of industrious small and medium sized enterprises, which have been active in R&D for decades, increasingly manifests itself in the field of medical technology and has been creating world leading technologies. Med-tech companies, medical institutions, universities and research institutes enjoy the possibility to take part in the “Medical Innovation Saitama Network”: As of March 2017, 278 companies, 22 universities and research institutes, 12 medical facilities and 23 supporting organizations were already part of the platform and using this opportunity for technological exchange and the promotion of medical technology as well as related industries.
Saitama represents a location with high development potential for medical technologies and is located to the north of Tokyo. As part of the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, it is connected to an outstandingly developed high speed transportation system. Saitama’s major station “Omiya” is a hub-terminal for six high-speed “Shinkansen” railway-lines and only a comfortable 22-minute train ride away from Tokyo.
