Saitama at Compamed and MEDICA 2019 in Düsseldorf

At this year’s Compamed and Medica in Dusseldorf, from November 18 to 21, 2019 the Saitama City Foundation for Business Creation will present a selection of 12 exhibitors from the Japanese prefecture of Saitama. After participating in the world’s largest trade fair for medical technology in recent years, Saitama is again looking forward to meeting visitors from all over the world and introducing them to some of Saitama’s finest companies some of which have already participated in the Compamed/Medica in Düsseldorf and the MT-Connect/MedTechLive in Nuremberg during the recent years.

The city of Saitama, capital of the identically named prefecture, has been coordinating business matchings and technical exchange between the JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and the “Medical Technology Cluster” in Bavaria since 2011. By establishing an intense relationship of trust through frequent exchanges over the past eight years, for example by fostering further cooperation with the Cluster Mechatronik & Automation, the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce for Middle Franconia and the Forum MedTech Pharma e.V. as well as the Bayern Innovativ GmbH, the exchange of information on both sides has been steadily increasing and more and more companies from Saitama are now seeking business opportunities in Germany and partnerships in Europe.

Traditionally being home to many manufacturing companies, Saitama has become a center of precision engineering. For decades, small and medium-sized companies in the region have been actively utilizing their diverse ingenuity for extensive research and development particularly devoting themselves to the field of medical technologies. World-leading technologies and unique know-how are the result of this development.

As part of the “Medical Innovation Saitama Network” platform, Saitama offers companies from the medical technology industries, medical institutions, universities and research institutions the opportunity for intensive and interdisciplinary cooperation. The number of members in March 2017 was about 278 companies, 22 universities and research institutes, 12 medical institutions and 23 support organizations. Today, more than 300 members are committed to the exchange and promotion of medical technology and related industries.

Saitama prefecture and its capital, the city of Saitama, are located north of Tokyo (about 22 minutes by train). Being part of the well-developed high-speed network of the Tokyo metropolitan area Saitama’s central traffic hub, Omiya station, offers connections via six Shinkansen high speed train lines. The region has high potential for industrial development in the field of medical technologies.
